Hello to all,

I recently traded my stainless Mini 14 RR for a Bushmaster XM15 HBAR.  Although I haven't shot one round through it, I deceided to take it apart and see how everything works.  I was quite surprised how easily the upper and lower receivers breakdown and give access to the bolt and carrier. Luckily I only had one issue with putting this back together....the rear takedown pin spring.

The takedown spring was damaged from twisting the stock back in place.....ok...so I'll order another spring.  Actually, I may even tap the lower receiver and complete the set screw upgrade.....big ups to QuarterBore on that one.

Here's the issue.  I'm can not find the takedown pin detent.  I'm not sure if it fell out during takedown or if it remains in place and you have to do something special to remove it.  Of course I want to make sure it gets replaced if its gone, but I also don't want to piggyback 2 of them by installing another one.  Does the detent fall out if the firearm is held vertical...or...is there a special method to remove them?  My guess it that its free to fallout.  Thanks in advance.

If there is oil in that area it might not just fall out. I usually blow into that area to get it out... To see if it is even in there you can use a paperclip, straiten it out and push it into the hole. If you see the detent pop out then it's in there. If you see the paper clip then you know what that means!

Why did you take the stock off to begin with?

Thanks for the quick input guys.

Captain1911, just to see how it's configured, that's all.  For that matter, why did I take it apart before I shot it?  Or, why did I damage the spring in the first place?  Or why.........?  It's my first AR you know.  Thanks for the link.

Just curious on why you removed the stock, since it's not required or recommended for a field strip.

Those detents fall out really easily. I know I probably have a couple hidden on the floor around here.
