Hey all,
I just got done buying the final piece to my carbine collection (Colt 6921) and now I would like to get something that can reach out and touch someone. I assume a 7.62x51 NATO round rifle will do the job. My questions for you all are… 1) Since this will be a long range gun, should I assume the longer the barrel the better? I don’t want to get a Noveske 12.5” 7.62 rifle. What would you guys recommend as the shortest length barrel I should get for a long range gun? 2) I know of LaRue and Noveske but who else should I be looking at? |

Your best bet is to look in the Variants section and read up on what people are doing with the .308/7.62. There are plenty of builders these days, and it all depends on how much you want to spend. Take a look at Armalite, DPMS, Fulton-Armory, POF, Rock River, GA Precision, JP, LWRC, just to name a few.
Also, the longer the barrel the higher the velocity...up to a point. There was a thread recently in the Variants section where a guy with a new 16" LaRue was hitting steel at 1000 yards fairly regular, so you do not need a 24"+ barrel to get the job done. |
