I have a RRA entry tactical and am considering my optics options.  I need to stay under $400

Rifle will be primarily used for deer and hog hunting.  Longest shots will be out to 150 yards with most shots between 50-100 yards

Will a 3 moa red dot like the SPOT provide enough accuracy at 150 yards to be used for hunting or do I need a variable power?

Does anyone have any experience with the SPOT scope red dot.  It is at the top of my list currently.

Thanks for helping out the new guy.

never heard of Spot scope, i'd recommend picking up an aimpoint from the EE in that price range

as far as shooting 150yds with a red dot, it depends on you.  3moa dot at 150yards would cover  ~4.5" inch circle on the target

Ive heard mixed reviews on the spot.
Between 50-100yds it should accomplish its intended purpose. Creating only 3" circle at 100 and 1.5" at 50
Out to 150 you might want to consider a 3x magnifier.
Not saying that a standard dot isnt accurate out to 150 but will assist you in providing more accurate shots out to those distances

My Spot dot is about the size of a clay pigeon at 100yrds.  A tad smaller, but about the same size.  If you kill zone is the size of a clay pigeon at 150yrds you should be GTG.

For what you have in mind, I'd say look at the Millet  DMS ( 1-4x).

Example of optic

Thanks everyone for you replies.  I think I will need some magnification after further review.   I like the Millet 1-4 and have seriously considered it but I would ideally like something more compact and I could put on top of my Matech BUIS.  I just read about the primary arms fixed 4x and thinking a fixed 4X might be a good option.

If you're considering a red-dot, check out the Vortex Strikefire. I just got one a couple weeks ago, and it seems like a viable option...$150.00 is reasonable.
