So I have a nice LMT MRP Piston rifle, and I'm planning my next gun. I'm kind of going for a KISS/utilitarian design. This gun will primarily be used as my backup for whenever I end up getting around to taking carbine courses, it might also become my girlfriends AR, or a truck gun/beater, or something to that extent. My goal is to keep this sub $750 and still make it decent enough to be reliable. I'm going cheap on the parts I can, but not super cheap. I figure for all of the functioning parts I want to splurge. So right now here are my two options:

Option 1:
DSA Lower Receiver, DSA Car kit, Stag LPK, DSA Midlength 16" Upper, BCM BCG, BCM Charging Handle, Rear MBUS all for around: $693.80

-or-

Option 2:
DSA Lower Receiver, DSA Car kit, Stag LPK, CMMG Complete 14.5" Upper with Perm. Phantom, Rear MBUS: $755.90

I'm open to other suggestions, provided they meet these terms:

-No longer than a 16" barrel
-No HBARs
-Around $750
-Telescoping stock is preferred

What say ARFCOM?

which ever route you go I say go middy or dissipator. the longer sight radius helps alot when your not running optics. I ran a course with a carbine sight raduis and with my dissipator and I did much better with the dissy. especially out at 100+yds.
thats my take.

As a backup I'd consider getting a double star.
The quality durability and reliability is unmatched when it comes to pricing.
Buds has them for $650
there barrels are individually MPI tested so slap a BCMBCG and you are lookin at $800 which seriously isnt bad at all

I'm kind of more interested in building my own. Anyone else have any feedback?

I'd go with the CMMG over the DSA, mainly because of the chrome lining (especially if this is going to be a truck/beater gun that doesn't get much care).

Del-Ton is another option to look into for budget builds. They default to non-chrome lined, but you can add chrome lining as an option for only $45 more.

You can also chose to order without a BCG if you would prefer to buy your own "premium" auto carrier from BCM/LMT/DD.

I went with option C:

There was a gentlemen selling a used upper (under 500 rounds, in exc shape) the consisted of the following:

LMT 14.5" upper
Colt FA BCG
Colt M4 Handguards
PRI Gas Buster charging handle

...for $600 shipped. I went a wee bit over budget, but I figure I got a lot better parts. Thoughts?
