IS it s a standard LE style stock? Just push the button as if you were going to move it and then pull the front part down a little more and slide it off. IF its an A2 then you have to unscrew it I believe. IF you are talking about the buffer tube, its a different story.

No I need the whole thing off buffer tube and all I don't have a stock tool Im going to order one to have but if there is another way to take off the castle nut now im going to do it.

Punch and small hammer.  One needed heat due to excessive use of loctite.  I think that one was fubar'd enough to need replacement.
