Went out to zero My Bushmaster 20"...bought a new scope...
well..it was cold, maybe 29 degrees out. About every 5th or 6th shot I noticed the bolt about half way open laying on a round at about a 45 degree angle ...the tip on the feed rail and the rear on top of the mag..?? The bolt made a dent every time right below the neck. The previous shell casing was ejected. Now I did change the butt stock out from a fixed one to the adjustable one......any suggestions ?? thanks (no Wolf...I was using the Federal 200 round value Pack) |

did you change the buffer to a carbine buffer, the fixed stock has a longer buffer and would cause you to short stroke I missed that part in the OP. This is likely your issues over mags if you didnt change it out... ya know...thats the reason I joined this forum.....so I can pull my head out of my butt. No.....the guy that sold it to me was suppose to change it out when I bought it. He sent the fixed stock with the rifle...now I gotta check to be sure.... do I just pull both springs out and compare ??? |

If he didn't change the buffer the rifle wouldn't function - the rifle buffer is too long to allow the bolt carrier to cycle with the telestock's receiver extension.
Like I said in the other thread you need to check: - Lubrication (under lubed rifles - especially new or dirty rifles - can have similar issues). - State of your gas rings (are any broken? Don't worry about the holes not lining up) - Gas Key are the screws tight and is it properly staked? (loose or broken screws will cause the key to leak and short stroke the rifle). |

The gas key is tight and staked as well as Bushmaster does it...I have looked at some photos of the way it should be. Screws are tight now...I gotta brush up on the gas rings.... |

Sounds like short stroking, but have you confirmed it? Load a mag with one round and fire... do this a few times. Did the bolt hold open? I understand....haven't done it yet but will tomorrow... if it short stokes...the hold open won't catch....correct ? good idea.... |
