Was wondering if it is legal to have one? and even if i did get one, how would one add the different switching (1 shot, 3, full, safe)?

Why yes you are.. It is legal to own one and install it in your AR. You need to do nothing in regards to the selector as FA and burst have alot more to do than the carrier. If you feel you need one by all means go get one.

I've been shooting all my life and have a multitude of guns. But it wasnt until recently when I got my own AR that i decided to learn how shit worked....soooo i guess i will get to reading... wish me luck.

I'ts absolutely legal to have them.  It will have no affect on your selector switch your rifle will still be semi-auto.  I think most people put them in their AR's because they are heavier and cycle more smoothly.

There is a ton of info in this forum.
The question that you ask and MANY more that you will have can be found by doing some reading.

Also, the hammer cocks off the carrier, instead of putting un-due stress on the firing pin.

Example of still need more reading and look how long he's been on here....
he's talking about the top one....Unshrouded, enhanced shrouded,Auto...thier is another like the top one thats shrouded too.

I found the full auto carrier with a "H" buffer makes my M4's recoil feel like a .22 lr. and that's with full power M193 ammo
