Hi all.....

Dumb question here, the only break free CLP I could find is the Winchester brand from WalMart.  It only comes in an aerosol can.

My dumb question is this:  would spraying the can into a measuring cup until I get to the 4 ounce mark equate to 4 ounces of CLP from a non-aerosol can?  I know it is stupid question but I am not sure if the aerosol output has other ingredients of if it would be pure CLP.

I am trying to get a specific mixture for cleaning the carriers on my AR's.

Thanks,

This should be in the Maintenance and Cleaning Section of the site.  4 ounce of liquid should = 4 ounce of liquid no matter how it got into the container it's in.  With that said, Winchester CLP is lilely not the same as BreakFree

I think you're over thinking it.  Just spray on the CLP.

ETA:  Are you OCD?

It is the same, Winchester recently purchased Breakfree.

I think the OP is trying to make some sore of a mixture, not just use the CLP by itself.  I've never used the aerosol version, so I don't know the answer.

it's clp with a propellant. you likely will get less as i ALWAYS end up with unusable clp in those spray cans.

The aerosol will have some carrier in it, although most of it evaporates, so I doubt it's enough to screw up your formula.

It's an expensive way to get your 4 oz., but it'll work.

OCD....COD...BAD...I dunno.  I like being very specific.

I am not a chemical engineer so I am not sure if vaporizing a liquid such as CLP for spray out of aerosol changes it or adds something into the mixture.  I am trying to get a specific mixture of CLP and odorless mineral spirits for cleaning my bolt carrier and bolt.

The Winchester label says "Breakfree CLP" on it so I made the assumption it was one in the same.  It was the only thing Wallie World carried.

For that OMS / CLP mixture, there is no right or wrong amount of CLP to use, it's really not needed at all for the cleaning action, according to Quib it's just added to provide some corrosion protection.

Yep, that's the mixture I was talking about.

Cool, I am GTG then.  I got the gun significantly clean but had some residual carbon on the bolts.
