so its the method used to keep that screw from getting loose.  The sides are dented in the lock the screw in? is that right what i said.

correct, it's the method of displacing carrier key material into the threads of the screws to prevent them from loosening.

Very important. I've had a rifle fail on me before as a result of an improperly staked key.

Just a few months ago I had a the gas key screws on one of my Bushmaster rifles back out due to poor staking. It will cause your gun to go down in the worst way. This gun was a few years old and had a couple of thousand rounds through it.

I tightened the bolts back up but haven't taken it back to the range to test yet. I really need to find a tool to stake the bolts correctly.
