I've always stayed away from purchasing major components at gun shows. We have one rolling through town this weekend, and I'm looking to buy a new stripped lower. The main question I have is does one have to pay a transfer fee for one at the gun show? If thats the case I'll probably just pick one up online as I can get better selection for the basic same price at the gun show if I have to pay a transfer fee.

You shouldn't and if someone wants to charge you for it walk.

no actually would probubly be a good place to look for a deal on a lower. most places and states allow you to buy rifles shotguns at gun shows and walk out the door with them the same day, no transfer fees, some may charge u tax. would still be the obligitory call to the feds they have to make. thats the only real hitch. ive had the fbi check take 2 days to get an answer back. but you could run into that issue with any ffl you had one shipped to also. i have one here locally next month that i intend to shop a new lower too.

If you are purchasing from a dealer (which you probably will be) the purchase is the same as if you were at a local gunstore. A transfer fee is typically charged by a dealer for accepting a firearm you have purchased from out of state and had shipped to your instate FFL dealer for transfer to you. At the gunshow I imagine the dealer will be selling his own stock and will price it accordingly.

Thanks guys, we get a lot of "private" vendors, at our gunshows and thats  why i always stayed away, but the last one a few had some really good deals on lowers so I figured I may pick one (or two lol) up.

Should be no fee and you can see, feel, touch. With some of the poor quality control of late due to the booming market I think you're better off purchasing this way even if the price is slightly higher.

I have to agree with the idea that a gunshow is the best place to buy a lower.  I've never paid a transfer fee for buying anything at a gunshow.  Hell, the ATF is all over the place at gunshows, so you can just deal with them directly...
