Ok, so a new policy is coming down through my department that all rifles have to have anti-walk pins. I'll tell that story in a sec. But my question is, what pins to get. I was looking at the kns gen 2 set on brownells, but to be honest I don't know anything about them or which size to get for my RRA lower. Any help would be appreciated.

Now for the story causing the policy.

A few weeks ago me and 9 other officers were taking our patrol rifle class, and our swat team was doing training a few Birms down from us. Late in the afternoon we get told that one of the swat guys shot himself in the foot. Now, swat guys all get issued JP rifles. Apparently what had happened was the trigger pin had walked out enough for the hammer to engage the sear, but any bump caused the sear to slip and release the hammer. He had the rifle slung and put a mag in and that set the rifle off on safe. So long story short, it was mechanical failure, but we all should look over our rifles and catch something like a pin working it's way out every now and then. The officer is fine, the round just grazed his big toe. Needless to say he hasn't lived it down yet.

I don't really know why, but the swat leadership as well as most of our firearms instructors seem to bow down and pray to the JP's. I for one don't see what makes them so special, and for the price they fetch, you could build a high quality rifle for much less than they paid.

But on a side note, I was talking with my father and he told me a story from when he was stationed at platsburg they were having an exercise w/ miles gear back in the early 80's and his COLT trigger pin had walked all the way out ans was barely hanging onto the reciever.

This is ridiculous.

Department policies can be frighteningly stupid.  Someone assembled a rifle wrong or had an out of spec weapon, and now everyone has to put that KNS trash in their guns?

JESUS!!

Pins don't walk out on a properly assembled weapon using in spec parts.

Thats a bureaucracy for ya.

Either way, good reason to go push on your pins and make sure they're not goin anywhere
