Someone told me that a slam-fire was less likely to happen if you have the safety on safe when you charge it, than if you don't have it on safe.

I can't understand how that would make any difference?   Isn't a slam-fire caused by the inertia of the firing pin, when the bolt carrier group is "let go" and the firing pin has some forward inertia and causes a slight impact on the primer, which with a thinner primer, might just be enough to cause ignition?    How does the status of the safery affect any of that?   (not talking accidental discharge where a person might then accidentally pull the trigger if the safety were not on)

That person didn't know what they were talking about.

Thanks for confirming it.   Wondered if there was something I needed to learn about with this.

It doesn't matter at all. The safety only effects the movement of the trigger.

Some day I'll get around to my test on how many times you can load a round of XM193 before the firing pin, by inertia alone, will set the round off.

That would be very interesting to find out.
