I have been doing searchs and asking questions here about range/barrel legnth over the last few months. I also been reading a lot of the threads. In some that I have read...seems I recall one or two people posting something about a chart?. Based upon the posts I got the impression there was a "chart" some where that compared length or barrel with range or something like this. I have looked where I thought I might find this but have not found anything close yet. Is there such a "chart" or something like it and if so where might I find it?
Thanks |

Thanks Usually when people here refer to "The Chart" they are talking about the google documents m4 comparison kept by RobS from m4carbine.net.... Google "M4 chart" if you want to look at it, I don't think it is what you are looking for though based on the info. you gave. |

RobS chart is a fantastic little piece of intel for the first time buyer, maybe the best. Wonder why he isnt on this forum? |

Ok...I found a lot of what I was looking for on Google...I was looking here too much I guess. Most of what I found was talking 16" vs. longer but did find one or two things for under 16". It seemed like 300yds seemed to be about max range for accurate shots from 14" barrel. Does this sound right?
So a barrel that is 14" to 12" should be able to make accurate shoots out to at 300yds if I was reading stuff right...is this correst? I would be happy with 200 yds. I know there are several factors here such as ammo/powder/twist rate/shooter skill etc etc but looking for just the quick and dirty answer here. I'm trying to build the shortest upper between 10.5" and 14.5" with the best range ratio. |

I heard that also....and heard they can do more...also heard less. Kinda of why I'm asking. Leaning towards 12.5" and looks like this should be able to do about the same. But how accurate?
I was not in the military, I do not know what the qual course of fire would be for the M-4. But looked it up and the Marines do 200yds and out to 500yds. I am assuming this is with a 20" barrel. I found EFFECTIVE m-4 range was 300yds with MAX Range being 500yds. So I guess this answers my question then. And yes I know this rifle will be more accurate then I am. |
| USMC, M4s, iron sights, 500 meters. They gave our M4 guys the option of using m4s to qual, or using m16a2s. I think everyone chose their M4s. They all qualled expert for the most part if I recall. So m4s can be accurate at 500, but I dunno if the round will perform as designed. |
| Thanks everybody....I got what I was looking for. Even the smart a.. ones made me think and look at the stuff that was so obvious I had over looked it. I'm thinking of doing a 12.5" barrel and wanted it accurate out to 200 yards with max 300yards. Sounds like this should be able to meet my needs. Thanks again |
