I am considering buying a UBR. I have a Vltor Emod and an Ace Socom on my shtf guns now. I am thinking about switching the Emod to my 9mm and going with a UBR on the main go to gun. It seems to me the mechanism would wear out on the UBR after a lot of use. Any input would be appreciated.

How many times a day are you going to change the position of the stock?  You'll get bored with it and want something else before you ever wear it out.

does anyone know if that has ever happened?

I would bank on you not being able to wear it out.  It is a rather heavy stock but it is the most solid adjustable stock out there.  I have it on my scoped AR and it gives me the feeling of a fixed stock but the flexibility to take it into confined spaces.

Why would that mechanism wear out any faster then than on any other stock?

Do you think it would be less durable than a CTS or MOE?

UBR™ Collapsible Buttstock

The Magpul® UBR™ (Utility / Battle Rifle), U.S. Patent 6651371, is a fully-featured, adjustable butt stock for the AR15 / M16. Unlike typical collapsing stocks, this modular design offers the stability of a fixed stock with consistent cheek weld in any position. Seven-position length-of-pull (LOP) adjustment is quickly executed with gross motor movement while the integral preset system allows direct access to a preferred position. A robust lock mechanism and multi-shell construction increase durability under severe impact conditions experienced during malfunction clearing and accommodates large-bore AR calibers. The UBR™ also provides extra counterbalance weight to improve handling on full-length rifles and weapons with muzzle-heavy accessories or grenade launchers. Optional components such as dual-side sling mounts and metal strike plate allow the UBR™ to adapt to the mission at hand.

Note: The UBR™ includes the necessary Entry Receiver Extension tube and all mounting hardware. An M4 Carbine Buffer and Spring are required for use with the UBR™ and are not included.

UBR will not wear out, and is not fragile. It'd make a helluva club if you ran out of ammo...

My son ran a prototype through an entire tour in Iraq. Lots of in and out of vehicles, helicopters, etc. Plenty of closing and opening of the stock.

It still runs without a single hitch two years later. We actually just shot several hundred rounds with it last weekend.

Durability is not an issue.
