For some reason, when I flick my selector from safe to fire and I pull the trigger, the hammer does not release and fly forward. I took out my hammer to make sure it was in correct and everything looks like it's in place. What the heck is wrong?

+1 check the disconector.Do a function check..with hammer in fired posistion hold trigger to rear and cock the hammer by pulling the BCG back..then let it go forward..release trigger you should hear a click..if not its not releasing from the disconector.Check to see if disconector spring is in right and that the disconector moves freely within the trigger housing.
