I sold the AR I had. It was a Colt HBAR with ban features. It was sort of fun, but the heavy 20" barrel and fixed stock made it nothing special.
I have been thinking of getting one with a collapsible stock and a 16" light weight barrel.
The one I had was a flattop and I had a scope i put on it. I also installed a freefloat tube under the handguards so I could shoot service rifle matches- but I never got around to shooting any. The whole rig, including the bipod I had on it, made it heavy as hell and seemed to defeat the intended purpose of the AR15. I had also thought about varmint hunting with it, but again never went.
There are some carbine matches relatively near me, and those sound like fun. There's no place near where I can hunt, so this would end up being just for fun at the range. I would also keep it handy for home defense.
The dilemna I have is that I don't have the money right now to buy a decent AR. I might have enough after the first of the year, but who knows what the prices will be like then.
I do have an extra 1911- a Kimber Warrior, that I don't shoot much. I use an SA Loaded for the matches I compete in.

Is there a good AR15 in the price range of a lightly used Warrior? I might trade if I could find one. I figure on avoiding Colt. That damn pony just costs too much. What about Bushmaster? If so- which?

I welcome any and all ideas.

You can find Colt 6920s for around $1100 if you look around. Not that much more than the prices I've seen on the Warriors

I didn't think Colts had come down. I still see some for a lot more but those are different models.
One thing I do know I will want is another RRA trigger, so I also do not want another Colt with a sear block. I don't remember what size the pivot pin was on mine, but it was different from other brands. I would like to be able to change uppers later if I want.

I might wait and just buy one early next year. Are there any indications that AR prices will jump again soon?

Colt no longer uses the sear block. The newest 6920s use standard size pivot and trigger and hammer pins so everything is interchangeable. I don't see prices going appreciably higher anytime soon. So many were bought during the panic I think the market is a bit saturated.

Early next year is two months away.

You can put the rifle you want on layaway at today's price and pick it up "early next year."

Or, you can get a lower now and order an upper in the new year.

Or, you can get a lower now and order an upper now and have it sometime in the second quarter of the new year.

Or, you can wait and see what prices will be in the next few months.

Or, you can go to gunshows in the next month, or two, and probably find a used AR for a smokin' price.

Or, you could stop coming to this site and hope the notion passes.

it sounds like there is no rush, and no need to trade away this Kimber. I will wait until January and either buy a whole carbine or build one.

Are the Colt 6920s that much better than the Bushmaster Patrolman or RRA Tactical Entry?

Yes.  For the same money, why get less.  Superior bolt testing, extractor spring, gas key, uses M16 carrier instead of AR15, mil-spec barrel steel, barrel testing, chrome (this may vary), rifling 1/7 vs 1/9, finish under front sight, receiver extension, and buffer.  I may have missed more, maybe not.

I will probably go ahead and get a Colt 6920 then. From what i could find thery aren't much more expensive than the others I asked about.

I will either just save up and look to buy one after the new year, or if I can't stand it I might still try to trade the Warrior.

The thing that keeps me from deciding for sure is that I can't be sure what prices will do. I can hope to find a slightly used 6920 that someone bought in the panic following the election.
I hate to ever get rid of a weapon. The Warrior is nice. The only reason i am considering trading it is that I can always buy another 1911, and I have an SA Loaded so i won't be completely unarmed. In fact I might get a TRP instead of another Warrior.

Is a Kimber Warrior a reasonable trade for a 6920, or am I wasting time thinking about it?

I agree. It makes no sense spending the same amount of money on an inferior rifle. Colt has the name, reputation, and quality behind it. What more could you ask for when you can find them for $1000 right now?

I may be trading after all. There is a DPMS build in the EE WTT that I might trade a Leupold scope for.
It isn't a Colt, but may be good enough as a for fun gun.
If I do I will post about it.

Huh? I need more info than that.
If this is a decent carbine I will keep my Kimber and can use the money for mags, ammo, etc. I got this Leupold a while back for a match that I have not had time for. The scope is on my Anschutz .22.  I had planned on taking it off and using the olympic aperture sights in another match anyway.
