My lower seems to have Quite a bit of forging flash in the front..(magwell area) and the rear..Tang? area Quite excessive..Like you would find in the trigger area...It bothers me..I have never really seen this on other recievers...would it be wise to remove this then get it anodized? or would this not be cost effective..and im just being anal?

Try to send it back for a replacement . Don't settle for poof crafstmanship. Its my understanding thats how they all are...its an ArmaLite..dont get me wrong i love it...but all that flash!.. ...maybe its not all that much...ive just never seen a reciever that hasnt had it removed.

Send it back, ArmaLite has NO excuse for that kind of shoddy workmanship. For years their lowers have been finished correctly. I can't imagine
that more than one got out this way, because the mag well front is where they put their DOD exceptance stamp. I never went for this kind of cheap-ass , slam- it -out -the-door, fast as you can BS. You can bet, this is a result of all the hysteria from a while earlier, and quality was thrown to the wind in order to make a few extra bucks. Just ask the Gov't inspectors as Colt or FN if they would accept that kind of crap on a military lower ! I'd expect this kinda nonsense from Vulcan/Hesse, but certainly not from any builder of reputation. NO, send that piece of shit back, and make noise big time 'til they treat you right. It's too bad that we, the customer, have to be the final inspectors ......but sometimes we are. Don't let them get away with this !!! |

If YOU are not happy with it, that's all that matters. Send it back, it's YOUR MONEY not ours and our opinion is just an opinion, but your rifle is your rifle.
If you really don't care, then shoot it, it makes no difference ... but if that were the case you probably wouldn't have asked. |

When Colt starts shipping lowers like this to Iraq, etc., then it will be OK. I mean the Germans shipped some pretty rotten looking K98s at the end
of WW2. Til that time, demand a quality lower. Hey, they set the original standard, and all that forging flash needs to GO ! Does it affect the function...NO, how 'bout accuracy....NO, but that's NOT the issue. Tell those marroooons you want the real deal, a real ArmaLite , and not something some whackjob 80% slap-together that some jamoke did in has garage after a case of Billy Bob Lite !

Return the thing. With all the good lowers that are being produced today, why put up with crap? Bet the mag well hangs on to mags too.
There are very high quality lowers being made today from established manufactures as well as some new ones. Spikes, Bravo Co. as well as some newer people like AGP Arms and Aero Precision. I don't really care who makes my lowers , but what I do care about is how well they make them. Is the flashing trimmed up smooth? Is the mag well EDM? Is the finish done to spec? Are the pin holes the correct size? If one or more of the above answers is no or I don't know, move on. there really is no reason in the world to put up with crappy finishes or crappy finished parts. |

Go fight something with it. I posted some pics of a new upper I brought last week with gouges and places where a rotary tool skipped along the inside, and faced some of the same responses. It's not a mindset of "I want my gun to be pretty." I think it's more, you pay for something new, and you have in mind a certain minimal level of quality to the final shipped product whether it's a gun, a toaster, or a TV. |

I have an ArmaLite lower, and I want to see a picture of the OP's. |

I got an ArmaLite lower too, and have seen more than a few others. They all had smooth front surfaces on the magwell . As I said before, this is
where they usually apply their DOD acceptance stamp. Be pretty tough to do with a giant vertical flash seam. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE Armalite a lot, one reason has been an attention to details like this one. IF they have changed their standards and gone El-Cheapo then piss on 'em, but without some pics of various ARs recently this could be tough to nail down. I'd love to give 'em the benefit of the doubt, and say just one escaped the inspector and got out the door like that. guess we'll find out soon enough. |

I bet most of these "just shoot it" guys wouldn't let it slide if their new Ford truck had worn tires or chunks out of the dash.
Just sayin'. We all work hard for our money. How many of you guys saying "just shoot it" have this exact issue or a big bite out of your FSB? Just curious? Not saying I disagree with just shoot it... I have some rough looking rebuild AKs and I don't give a crap they are reliable and that's all that matters! |
