Stag model 5 with rail.  I was curious about the reliability and quality of these.  This will be my first ar rifle.  Love the Lwrc and Lmt in the 6.8, but there is a good deal to be had on this Stag 6.8.  Any advice is appreciated

Bolt carrier gas key will probably need to be staked. If you want a Stag, check it before you buy.

My stag is awesome. Bolt carrier staking sucks though. If you can use a punch, have no fear.

do I pay more and get the LWRC? M6A2?

Stag is fine. Stake the carrier, directions can be found on this site, and save yourself a ton of money.

Stag makes a nice looking rifle but the way the market is right now i would buy a Colt 6920 or DD for the same money .

Get the stag. The difference in price between the stag and the LWRC is a ton of ammo.

Neither make a 6.8.

I've read that the Stag 6.8 uses a twist rate that they have now found not to be optimal, check out the 68forum for more info. about this.

Register and take a look around. I'd go... I did go with titan armory upper on an EA 6.8 roll marked lower I bought.

I believe he's referring to DD and Colt not making this caliber.

+1 Stag

I have a Stag-2HT and love it.  Very reliable, no problems, eats Wolf too.

He is talking about a 6.8 though, I too have a Stag in 5.56 but I would not buy the 6.8 that Stag offers.

I just got my Stag 6.8 kit from the group buy on here. 2nd one too.
1st one - 1/10 twist (not optimal, but ok for most loads), poor gas key stake. Still good rifle.
2nd one - 1/11 twist (best choice), spec II chamber and a good gas key stake.

They must have listened to complaints/suggestions from people and reacted accordingly.

Stag is g2g in my book

That is good to know, I did not realize they change the twist rate and chamber, most I see advertised are still the older ones.

Thats because most retailers are just trying to unload an outdated product. The older 1/10 twist may have even been the spec II chamber, but a lot of people claimed it could not handle certain loads. Research shows that to be true. Go to the group buy section and order from Legal-Transfers. Comes with everything except the stripped lower. You will wait a while, but you will be happy when you get it.
ETA - Just checked the EE, group buy is still going. $609 for everything minus the stripped lower. It advertises the Stag 5.56, but he does it for the 6.8 too.

I just received a Stag 6.8 upper last week (2 month wait) and slapped it on a Spikes lower. It is 1:11 twist and the staking looks acceptable. I took it to the range this weekend to break it in and it fired flawlessly and with good accuracy. It ate all Hornady and Silver State ammo without hesitation. I am very satisfied with the purchase and would recommend.

Great info guys.  I am looking to see if it is the 1:11 twist.  If not I will pass. Thanks
