Hi all, I have not seen any recent info on these. Are the laser bore sights any good? I was looking at the Osprey brand that is chaimbered in the gun for my AR. Or am I just better off spending the money on ammo and sighting in at the range? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks, I think I'll use plan B and sight it in at the range. If you are trying to zero a scope, I would just pay a gunsmith to bore sight it. It will take only a few minutes and will save you ammo. It is not an effective way of zeroing your optic though because the laser does not factor in the ammo used, bullet weight, drop, molecular structure of the barrel, and many other factors. It's just a good tool to help save a few bucks and frustration. |

Absolutely.
on AR-15s you can just put the upper of your AR on a table, BCG removed, and look throught the bore/barrel.. match what you see with your sight/optic, and you are good to go for the final sighting.. you don't need a boresight.. How well it works depends on how careful you are. 100 yards works better than 25 and you want to ensure the target is exactly centered in the bore and that your eye is exactly in line with the bore. The sight picture should be the back bull in the middle, an even circle of whiote around it and an even circle of grey/silver around it (the bore) if none of it is perfectly concentric, the accuracy suffers. Obviously, once you get the bore aligned you need to adjust the iron sights or optics to the point of aim without moving the upper at all. That's tough to do, so you will probably need to go back and forth a few times to ensure both are perfectly aligned. Properly done, you will be able to print on paper at 100 yards, if not you should still be on the paper at 25 yards. –– Using a collimator to align the scope with the bore works ok, but it requires a very good fit between the bore and the insert, and many are very limited in how much vertical distance between bore and scope they can accommodate. |
