About a year ago or so I put together my first AR...

Noveske Lower
(CMMG lpk)
LMT 14.5 inch upper with permanent FH
Larue BUIS
Magpul CTR
Pmags

Got it all together pretty easily and bought 500 rounds of silver bear ammo.

I have never really sighted it in, but I am hitting everything close range and can hit a man sized steel target at 300 yards every time.

The problem?

I am getting jams all the time.  Failure to Eject and Failure to Fire...  I have to do the "slam the butt stock against the ground drill" to get the bolt unstuck every few rounds.

Is it the ammo?  Nothing in the gun rattles and it nothing looks damaged.  Some of the casings are damaged around the bottom end.
I have cleaned it and lubed it...

What gives?  This is really shying me away from the AR platform and I love my wasr-10 way more than my "higher quality" AR.  Is it not broken in yet?  I thought my problems would get better after 500 rounds.

Is silver bear the only ammo you have tried?
If so, just buy a couple boxes of different brands, preferably brass cased.

Wolf and the bear lines of ammo will not run in my gun. I get FTF due to the harder primers and had a couple
stuck cases I think due to the lacquer coating. Remington UMC and
xm193 run like a champ through mine.

Yeah silver bear is the only ammo I have tried.  I guess thats what I get for trying to be cheap...

definitely try some other ammo before giving up, and make sure you clean your chamber with a chamber brush.

ETA: and ARs do not require "breaking in."  If you are experiencing malfunctions then there's a problem, whether it be ammo or gun related.

i started out the same way. had 100 rounds of silver bear. I figured it was a "step up" from the .223 brown bear I was
running in my saiga. My best advice is to pick up reloading. You'll get good quality for a cheaper price than commercial stuff.

The steel stuff has quality issues for sure. I don't recommend it.

I would try some brass cased ammo. If it works fine with brass cased ammo then maybe try polishing the chamber and see if that helps with the silver bear ammo.

If you have never really sighted it in....then you will not hit a man size target at 300yrds.

And never break in a new rifle with cheap ammo...

Sight in with Hornady and use brass case ammo more often. If you use steel cased stuff make sure you lube it big time with CLP.

It is completely possible to hit man sized targets at 300yds without sighting the weapon in first. Not normal yes, but the last time I put a Buis on my rifle it was 2 clicks left to sight it in. thats 1in at 100 yards and 3in at 300. Definately within the scope of a man sized target.

All I did was put on the Larue BUIS and it was minute of man accurate.

Try new ammo and report back

I'd buy some brass cased ammo to get it really broken in, then go back to the silver bear. Mine shoot bear fine, but they are well broken in at this point.

Currently the Prvi 55 grain ball ammo best duplicates M-193 performance.

You can work backwards from there, as far as your patience will endure.
