I have an AR-15 in almost the classic A2 configuration. The variance is a Wilson Air Guage 20" Stainless Match Grade Barrell with a gas block topped by a Picatiny rail with a removable A2 style sight. The upper is basic A2 fixed carry handle with A2 rear sight.

When I zeroed the rifle, I had to really lower the front sight, to the point that it is very noticibly below the top of the front sight tower, almost 1/8th inch.

Everything except the lower reciever came from J&T in kit form and is correctly assembled. Once the rifle was zeroed, it shoots great.

My question: what is the specified height of the front sight as measured from the top of the barrell. On my rifle, from the flat surface between the wings of the front sight tower to the top of the barrel measures 2.069".

I posted this question on the J&T forum but no one answered except for the suggestion that the sight I have may have been meant for handguard rail height instead of gas block rail height.

So my question remains, what is the specified height for a standard A2 front sight.

Now that I see that picture, you do have the proper front sight.

And now that my brain is actually working this morning, 1/8" below the top of the ears is no big deal.

I'm not positive, but 2.069 sounds about right. I do know from looking at the pic that you have the right front sight, though.

FSB = 1.94". My front sight measures 2.069". My front sight is 0.129" too tall. Since the sight is sunken in the FSB by approximately 0.125", this makes sense. If my front sight was only 1.94" tall the sight base would be approximately flush with the top of the FSB.

Thanks for the information and the drawings.

87GN,

Sorry I was not clear. It is not 1/8" below the top of the ears. The disc at the bottom of the adjustable sight is 1/8" below the flat area between the ears. The instructions to zero an AR start with that disc flush with the top of the area between the ears.
