i've been pretty much an AK guy, so i've really only shot for practical accuracy out to 50 and 100 yrds.
the only 556 rifle i have had experience with is the FS2000 and again using an Eotech and some AE 55gr bt and winchester/prvi partizan milsurp 62gr greentips, i've only shot at man sillouhettes out to 50 and 100 yrds. i now own a noveske n4 lopro with the sws rails. i do not want to disgrace the accuracy of the barrell, and while researching ARs i have gotten really interested in refining my caveman technique and the science of heavier bullets. i know i need someone training.... but do you have any suggestions re: ammo available now that i should start off with? or should i just work on my technique with the 55gr stuff i already have? i do have some Hornady TAP 75gr Match BTHP on the way though. |

I have the same rifle and I believe you should go with the heavier 62 or 67 grain bullet to get better accuracy. There will be someone along in a minute that can give you better advice than I can. I usually just shoot the 55 grain stuff because I can't ever find the other in stock when I'm ready to buy. Great first rifle by the way. Mine is my favorite of the 3 that I own. | For the price 75 grain Prvi Partizan match might be a good option. About a year ago before some ammo prices got crazy I believe I purchased this ammo for about $.34 a round shipped online. I would guess that this may shoot as good as anything in the price range and maybe even as good as some ammo costing far more. |
| Out to about 300 yards the weight of the projectile has practically no effect on accuracy. 53gr SMK isn't going to be any less accurate than a 77gr SMK at the ranges you've mentioned. The key here is the quality of the bullet itself and the consistency of the other components that make up the cartridge. |
