I have a freind in Tucson who said he could cut me some steel targets on his CNC plasma cutter and would not cost me anything except the truck freight.
He has a lot of scrap he could use.Anybody got some photos, examples of of steel targets and how thick. Not too big now.

I'm jealous! I've been searching for steel plate targets.

At least 1/2" thick would be good for .223 100yds+

I just bought 1 from Wideners....
Target

Used it today. Appears to hold up. Just a little ding. Still need to fab up some sort of mounting for it that's portable. Today I rested it right against the Berm to test it out.

what ever size you get make sure it's hardend steel.

I have a plate that is 3/4" thick 16"x24"but it's soft steel. at 50 yards I put 3/8" deep craters in it  with 5.56 and the face looks like a cheese grater. and it's damn heavy. it's the same stuff they make road plate to cover holes in the road during construction, hell it might be 7/8" thick I haven't measured it.

a 3/8" armore plate welded on a stand would be nice. make sure to put a downward angle on it so the splatter goes to the ground and not back at you.

I caught a piece of jacket in the eye brow just above my shooting glasses when shooting flat steel at 15 yards with my pistol. a downward angle would have prevented that I think.

the post above is a nice example.

Wow thats agood thread you found.I have some round steel plates i cut out for hand gun and some are 1/2 mild steel.
I did not use them much as i got bullets coming back at me.But i did not have them angled they was supposed to swing.
Since freight on what those wideners type would cost i think i will make something like below on a angle with mine,
I have welding, cutting equipment.Thanks...
Damn, link don't work bt its the round ones on angle the guy made on that thread.

I run MGM auto poppers for 3 gun practice, they are self resetting.
I use them up close to practice shotgun and at 200 to practice for the major multi guns.

Needless to say at 200 and further they are a bit of a challenge, which is good!

125 per target from MGM, but I got these three used and shipped for 200 here on ARFCOM EE

I also have a "small man" from curt at LV steel. HE makes some nice targets as well

You really need 500 brinell or whatever its called to deter/prevent the strike marks from becoming apparent on the steel (which can lead to unsafe steel, so I was told).
