Help! I have a Colt 6920 that I absolutely love. Got it about 2 months ago and have been shooting a lot. Only mods to it so far are a MIAD, MBUS, and Vltor Emod. Im NOT a mechanically challenged person (I own a Mustang GT that should tell you a lot) and I love to work on my own stuff. I am also a firm believer in doing it right the first time. No junk parts. Spend the little extra on something that will last. (ok, enough with the clichés').  That said, I also am not the type to buy the most expensive thing just because its the most expensive.

My plan is to get a Trijicon TR24G, when available. I am considering to leave it as is with the stock handguards, run a Troy DI 7" rail, a Larue 7" free float, or a Larue 9" sans the FSP. I would prefer option 4 but all that extra scratch just so I can flip down a front sight (which isnt necessary anyway) doesnt seem smart. So it really boils down to the DI 7" or the free float 7". All that will be mounted on the rail is a foregrip, possibly a light down the road.

My question is, will the free float give me an advantage as far as accuracy is concerned over the DI being that is more stable? I dont want to spend $850 on a scope and mount and be wondering if im doing myself a disservice by not having a free float rail. Do rails even affect accuracy? Im a newb so go easy on me. Thanks for any replies.

On a carbine I honestly don't think a free float rail makes much difference at all so it's probably not worth the time/money/trouble but it's not a bad thing if you just prefer it.

Troy and LaRue both make awesome rails so it's really just personal preference. I would also consider a KAC RAS (about $150 off the EE/ what the military uses) or a Daniel Defense Omega (free float/ extremely easy to install)

Good luck!

Thanks dude. Im doing the search thing and have been getting lots of great info. What Ive found in the past 2 months of shooting is that I really enjoy distance shooting. I mean I love it. Initially I was going to get a Eotech XPS or similar red dot sight, but after I realized how much fun magnified scopes are, I changed my mind on that asap. I will check out the KAC and the DD, thanks. Dam, and I thought knives were addicting. This is ridiculous.

Personaly I would go DD Omega; free float, easly installed, nice profile.

More important to have a light than a vertical grip.

IMHO.

Here was my TR24 setup.

Not the rifle, sold the optic though, as you say it's great but I'm not working, GI Bill hasn't kicked in yet and the mortgage has to be paid...

Highly recommend the optic and mount though.

I switched two rifles (20” and 16” middy) from Troy free float tubes back to standard handguards. Both rifle's groups opened up a bit, but we're talking .25 and .5 MOA, which isn't that significant for what they get used for. BSW
