Would the S&W VTAC be considered a recce carbine?  It seems to fit the bill.  16", free floated, extended rail.  Does a recce need a quad rail?  I built a clone of the VTAC on a RRA NM lower, and would like to know how to classify it, other than It's different than the 50000 other carbines I see around here.  Not that their is anything wrong with those.  I have two myself.

I've been trying to find real Recon rifle pictures, but they're pretty rare.

Supposedly, like the SPR, it's just an "idea" of a rifle, encompassing a 16" barrel, an optic, and usually a collapsing stock.
They can have any sort of free float handguard, LaRue being one of them. The reason those are preferred, I think, is because they give space to mount things like lasers and lights.
So if you don't need/have those things, the VTAC would be good.

The optics I've heard about are Nightforce or ACOG.

So, yeah, you've got a nice looking rifle there.

Here's the one I did using
Colt M4 upper receiver and Colt bcg, Douglas stainless 16" 1/7 SPR contoured barrel with OPS-INC brake collar, Larue 11" rails
on LMT lower w/LMT 2 stage trigger. Optic is a Leupold MR/T 1.5-5x M2 (illum spr ret). Sort of a mini-SPR-Recce

Do you have a pic of that with the full length of barrel?
