I just recently finished my 6.5 grendel build, and I seem to be having a problem with short stroking. I am using a Sabre barrel, which has a mid length gas system, and a JP stainless bolt carrier. I am not sure if the problem is the gas block not being properly aligned with the gas port in the barrel. Is there a good way to check without removing the gas block? Any help would be appreciated.

There will be alot of brunt powder around the gas block.
Check your gas rings too

hope this helps

No problems either of those areas, I am more worried that maybe I got the Gas block in the wrong position and am pinching off the gas?
The major problem is that when the bolt cycles it isn't picking up the next round, but when hand cycled it will. I guess maybe a magazine problem?

Load one round in the mag, load it, and shoot it.

See if bolt is locking back on empty magazine.

Also, if or when you check your gas block, you should be able to tell if its right from where the barrel and gas block have gotten smoked.

Loose gas key?

What kind of buffer are you running.

Gas tube out of alignment.

Same thing was happening with my grendel build. After about 50 rounds it started short stroking and 50 rounds later the gas block came loose and it became a bolt action.
I realigned and tightened the set screws with some loctite and she's been 100% ever since.

how would I go about checking that? and how do you mean out of alighnment? where it interacts with the gas key? or at the gas block? the latter seems pretty hard to screw up.

Mine has a YHM flip up sight/gas block that clamps on, already checked, seems to be good and tight.

Are you using a standard recoil spring?

Are you aligned over the port longitudinally?

ETA: The only other thing is to take the bolt out of the bcg and oil the shit out of it. Run it extremely wet.
