I am considering making a mount for my newest AR (got it yesterday) to put in my K5 Blazer, I was wondering if anyone here knows if it is legal in Texas to have one mounted up front, or if I should just find a place to put it in the back of my Blazer (leaning more towards this anyways because it kind of draws attention to my vehicle if I have a gun mounted at the front of my car). The only problem I have is that my hard case wont fit horizontally in the back of my Blazer so I am resorting to finding a way to mount it, or if you have any other good suggestions I am open to them too, I just need to find a way to keep my gun from sliding around and damaging the finish or scope. My dad is a police officer and has a mount in his car, but he doesn't have a clue about the legality of one in a civilian vehicle. Any help will be appreciated, and sorry if this is in the wrong area.

I wouldn't mount any gun in my vehicle where it could be seen from outside the vehicle. It just begs for someone to burglarize your vehicle and steal your stuff.

But that is just me.

I think it is legal in Texas but why advertise? I think it would attract too much attention from LEO's and thieves.

which is why a lot of LEOs moved theirs to the trunk. Secure it in the hatch area but still cover it up.

Is there anyway to secure it in the hatch area of my K5 though, something that it can mount into? I can put it in the hatch area, but the case won't fit with it, and like I said, I don't want my gun sliding around. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a shorter soft carry case with room for my mags and other stuff? I am leaning towards that now, but I had the opportunity to buy a front vehicle mount from a constable friend of my dad's for $15 and it has an electronic and key release. What I might do is buy it and just find a way to mount it in the hatch area, I know it is compact enough to fit, so that may be the route I go. Thanks for all your responses.

There was a post on here within the last year, I think in the survival forum.  Anyway the guy mounted an AR under the back seat of his Tahoe.  Looked good.  Wish I had a link or a pic, sorry.  Imagine something like this board with padding and some velcro straps for your AR.

That looks sweet, have you had them mounted like that for a while (I assume it is your's but cannot be positive)? Only reason I ask is because everyone here saying to put it somewhere nobody can see it. I love the roof idea, but my Blazer is lifted so I would think anybody who looks into it will only see the roof, so I feel like I just got
