Guess how many rounds. I will say that I believe that this was a rather early blow out. Any other issues that could cause this? Should I be looking for more issues?

What kind of bolt carrier was it in.

[#5]
It has 50 rounds...and I don't want to mention brand yet but it was bought as a complete BCG from a very highly regarded manafacturer, I want some opinions of what could be going on, if anything.

Does the inside of the carrier appear to have any sort of burs?  If not, perhaps a faulty ring.  Was it well lubed?  It looks like a BCM bolt, if so, call them, they will take care of it.

well lubed, didn't see any burrs.

Was it from these guys?

Edit: Smith & Wesson?

no...

After looking at the carrier again looks as to there may be some abnormal wear around the gas holes...really tough to tell though in that spot.

That looks like a Noveske bolt. I had major problems with mine and the company didn't take care of me, I'm not going to get into it because I don't want to be flamed by the coolaid drinkers. But yea I believe it.

From the lack of wear on the back of the bolt lugs I'd say a couple of mags at most.

The MP made me think of S&W (S&W M&P models)

Check the inside of the carrier with a Q-tips, see if it snags on anything. Either the gas rings were focked when you got the BCG or something is causing the rings to bend.

And yes, you may get some fuzzies inside your carrier.

Well, OP says it was well-lubed, but it's dry in the pic. So ...

Other than that, it's the rings, so maybe it went overgassed at some point ...

- overly hot rounds?
- gas port too big?
- how many total rounds through the rifle before they went (as opposed to this BCG)?
- handloads?
- shooting 5.56 in a .223 chamber?
- did the ammo show any signs of overpressure (bulged cases, blown primers?

If this is a new rifle - and you don't find it's a faulty carrier - I think I'd have it checked out for gas problems. But that's just my guess.

nothing technical to add and even though he stated how many rounds already, I was going to guess either 223 or 556.....I'd like to know the manufactuer also cause i have quite a few that are MP stamped and may need to keep an eye out...

thats odd.... i have bolts with bunches of rounds, i havent ran into that problem yet

dont line the rings gaps so close i think it say somthing like that in the manual i have. that might be your problem.
8/5/2009 5:44:37 PM EDT
[#21]
that happened to me on a Bushy bolt/carrier, I was installing the bolt into the carrier and it caught on the inner lip and pulled out the gas ring.

I chucked the ring and installed a new one. Haven't had a problem since
ETA: personally, I would just chuck the bad ring and install a new one like I did and not make a stink about anything. But it's your call.

That is OLD misinformation...the alignment of the gas rings has NO affect on operation.

Just change the gas rings.  What are they, $3.  Then go shoot another 50rds and if it does it again you know it's a problem.  If it doesn't then you might have just had a bad gas ring.

Aw hell, ya still got two good rings left. Just slap it back together and shoot it until that ring straightens itself out.
j/k

- overly hot rounds? Actually, cheap PMC
- gas port too big? BCM middy, never been touched
- how many total rounds through the rifle before they went (as opposed to this BCG)? 200 before the new BCG, before that it was a Brand new RRA BCG
- handloads? No Handloads through gun yet
- shooting 5.56 in a .223 chamber? .223 in a 5.56 chamber
- did the ammo show any signs of overpressure (bulged cases, blown primers? looked good, will post pic of brass.

I would do this. It's only $3 and you'll find out if it is the rings or something else.

Yes, actually responded to email after business hours. New rings are on the way, I have no doubt that the Manafacturer will take complete care of the issue. I honestly doubt that it is a manafacture defect, I think there could of possibly be another issue.
