I have a Bushmaster A4 Target Model that I just installed a red dot optic and 5x magnifier.  Sine this is going to be my "sharpshooter" AR since my other rifle is a carbine model, what bipod should I put on this rifle and should it be one of the vertical grip/bipod combinations?

All comments are welcome.

If you want a good solid bipod the Versapod is very good. I have never used a grip-pod so can not comment on those. I think with a conventional bipod you would have more versatility than a short grip style bipod. IMO

+1

A Harris lightweight works great for my rifles.  If you need it to be quick detachable, you can buy a QD mount for it to pop it on/off your rail (assuming you have a rail).

My friend has the versapod. I hate it. Since it's a combination foreend grip, light and bipod it's a compromise of all three and does no 1 thing exceedingly well. It wobbles and is a PITA to open and close. If you want precision and rock solid holds get the Harris BR - thre's a reson they are so popular

I can't believe nobody mentioned Parker Hale.  They're a bit pricey, but very nice.  I like Harris as well and they are considerably cheaper.

Good luck finding a PH.

Both Gibbs and Versa-pod copied the PH design.

I went with the Gibbs.  At the time the Versa-pods were flimsily made.

The Gibbs had some thick paint on it like some European manufacturers used to put on military rifles.

Had it Parkerized and now it's pretty much undistinguishable from a Parker-Hale minus the $300 tag.

I have no complaints about the Shooters Ridge bipod I use.

I have a Shooters Ridge that I picked up at Dicks. I paid around $70 or $80 for it and it it is made nice and sturdy. Over all I am very impressed with it and couldn't see paying any more for one.

My vote also harris... my buddy bought a cheap $40 bipod and I  bought a harris.  The difference is night and day.  His feels like airsoft, it sucks bad.

My experience to date has been with Harris bipods.  However, I'll give some of the other manufacturers that you guys mentioned a look before I make my final purchase.

Many thanks!
