I have recently purchased a Spikes Tactical 22lr conversion bolt carrier for my ARs.  I have an old EA (pre slick willie ban) that the ST bolt works perfectly in.  However, I have a new Stag (M4orgy) that will not work the Spikes Tactical bolt.  Once I put it together, the bolt will not go to battery, or will not close all the the way when charging.

Once I push the pin to separate the upper from the lower, the bolt will close?

I have about 1000 rounds through the Stag.  The EA has many thousands of rounds it has digested.

It just seems the Stag is very tightly built.  However, the upper and lowers form the EA and stag do fit together.  I  have written Spikes about this a few months ago, and they have not responded.

Any thoughts???

Thanks.

Evidently something is rubbing on the bolt, preventing it from closing.  Try swapping charge handles?  Hammer dragging on the bottom of the bolt?

look up a modification for the bottom of the bolt.  It rubs up against the bolt catch.  If it is a dedicated 22 gun, grind down the top of the bolt catch, otherwise, look at the bottom of the bolt and you should see some rub marks.  dremel that down a little bit till it doesnt rub anymore.  worked for me...

Thanks for the info.  This sounds like something I will need to look at.  I want to make sure, when you say "look at the bottom of the bolt and you should see some rub marks".  Does this mean I should see NO rub marks?

If this is true, I think I should be able to put some sort of  ink on the bolt and re-cycle it to see where I need to grind???

Thanks again for the insight!

I would be willing to say that it is rubbing on the notched hammer that your Stag has.

Just got my Del-Ton in, and the Spikes 22lr conversion kit works quite well in it!  I guess my Stag is just tighter.

On another note, while out at the range, I dropped my Spikes 22lr bolt, and it was dammaged (insert tears).  However, contacting Spikes, they are sending me a new part FREE!!!

Spikes seems to have excellent customer support!

Just like badazzar said, it's your notched hammer.

I havehad the same problem. That's why my .22 upper now resides on it's own lower with an unnotched hammer.

Great,  I will keep my Stag as a dedicated 5.56, and use my EA and two Del-Ton rifles as potential 22lr shooters.  Thanks for the input.

Just a plug for Spikes.  I dropped my bolt carrier assembly (22lr) and damaged it.  I walked around in a stupor till Monday.  I called Spikes on Monday, and they sent me a new part FREE.  I am now back in business!!!

Spikes is awesome!!!

Check this out as well. The bolt was catching on the bolt release. A little dremel work and back to new.  I would attempt your other lowers first though.

And I will agree Spikes service is top notch.
