Recently I read an article that briefly discussed scaled targets for working on fundamentals on limited distant ranges. I thought this was a great idea since a 25yrd range is close to work but kind of a waste for a precision build.
I was wondering if anybody might have some info or link to some scaled targets that I could use to simulate anywhere from 200-500 at a 25 yard range. Also, does anybody have experience or advice?? Pros and cons?? The article only had a sentence or two but got me curious. Appreciate any help! |

I don't get excited re. scaled targets...
Back when I started shooting PPC we used the B27 target at 25yrds to "simulate" the B34 at 50yrds Sure... it was smaller, but we're still shooting at 25yrds... Not 50. Trajectory remains the same... Your target is just smaller... 'Might "look" like its further away, but it's not. You're still shooting the same distance... Am I missing something? |

I have never understood how it would be any different that just shooting at a small bullseye target. If you shoot a target that is reduced for 500 yards all you have proved is that you can hit a small target at 25. Ya know, that is exactly what a couple of people have already said. I dunno. I guess there really isn't a difference. Guess I was just wanting to have something for relative comparision. You know, knowing that I am shooting the equivalent of 200-500 yards. |

The article I read said it is supposedly good for working on and maintaining proper fundamentals. Plus, I was looking for a reason to make the range clsoe to work worthwhile to shoot at. Not much fun to shoot a scoped rifle that far. I just finished my first AR and have been away from shooting for some ten years so I thought it would be good to revisit the basics. |

The Apple Seed Project espouses honing the fundamentals of marksmanship at a distance of 25 yards/meters. It is reported that some classes of the US Military Squad Designated Marksman Program do also. You can find down-loadable scaled targets in the Marksmanship Challenge thread. |

That was exactly what I was looking for. The article I spoke of was actually about teaching DM's in the military. It mentioned that some of the most important lessons were learned at 25 yards. Thanks again. |
