Just to double check my research on here to install barrel. I need to torque the barrel nut to a min. of 30 ft. lbs. and tighten till the gas tube lines up correctly. I do not need to exceed 80 ft. lbs. I ordered a tube of the Aeroshell 33MS to lube the threads of the barrel nut and reciever. And from my understanding on the head space conversation I am using my original barrel and bolt assembly so I shouldnt have to check the head space. I am only switching from a Bushmaster carry handle upper to a flat-top. Just wanted to run this by the pros before I begin this swap! Thanks ahead of time for your input on this!

It will likely help to snug up the barrel nut (for me snug turns out to be just past 30 ft. #) and back off a few times. Sounds like you're on top of it.

tighten it and loosen it 2 times to 30ft/lbs.  On the third time tighten to 30ft and the go up to 80 and align the next gas tube hole.

Do you put the gas block on AFTER you tighten up the barrel nut?  I'm going to be putting an upper together soon and I'm trying to figure this out.  Trying to understand how you would tighten the nut up with the gas tube installed.  The how to isn't the best, mostly shows how to take it apart.

You will install the gas tube after you have the barrel nut tightened to somewhere between 30 and 80 ft. # and tightened such that the gas tube hole in the upper is aligned with the space between two teeth on the barrel nut.

It would be prudent to hand tighten the barrel nut, then boresight with irons set to exactly the middle, adjusting windage by slightly twisting the barrel.  Then lock both receiver and barrel to the bench before final torque/alignment of the barrel nut.  Then check windage with the sights.
