Am I correct in thinking that the "type 2" or 'Gen 2"  M4 stock is the same as the one the US Army issues, Ie..Colt and FN?  I am about to buy one, and just want to make sure it is right.  Thanks

yes

edit: should have said most soldiers get issued the GEN 2 stock on thier M4's now.

Poached from the retro forum...

Any of these would be ok, depending on what you're trying for.

Good call ordering from BCM. The quality will be top-shelf

I've gotten two from BCM.  I've been very pleased with them.

I should add that the middle two are both correct for an M4, the third from the top is current issue and the second from the top is original with many still in service.

It's also a little scary knowing that I can replicate that pic from the retro section with my own parts...

Cool info, I didnt know that Car style stocks were ever issued on the M4's.

I see where the Gen 2 comes from now.  My real question was in reguards to the Civy mold M4 stocks, versus the military mold M4 stocks.  But I can see from the pics above that the BCM was the way to go.

I'm not sure when the newer style started getting phased in but around 2000 or so.  Had the old style since 95' on my then new M4A1 and still had that one through 06'.

EIC compitetion

Here's action shot with both when WWE came and visted us in 03'.

Excellent action shots, I love those rack numbers on the stock...I might have to add those to my clone just for kicks.

They won't be for long, apparently.  A parts guy I know from Alabama, had a bunch of scroungy looking old style butt pieces, and some new obviously Colt 5 position tubes at the show last week. Apparently they were take offs and some left over tubes from a conversion project at Anniston (?) Arsenal.

What he didn't get were any of the take off 4 position tubes––-which was exactly what I was after for my Israeli carbine clone..
