I am new to AR15's, so I am learning as I go.  I want to swap my extractor spring for the BCM one I bought, but don't know how to remove it.  I have the bolt out of the carrier, whats next?  Please be somewhat detailed to make it easy.  Thank you.

While pushing down on the extractor, take the firing pin and poke out the little pin in the side of the bolt that holds in the extractor.  The extractor will then come off.

Thank you.

I have a new question now.  Where does the little black ring go that came with the BCM extractor upgrade?

ETA:  I am assuming it goes on over the spring.  Is this correct?

Yes that's right.
There's questions on if you really need it.  I used it on my upgrade.  My AR works fine.
You will have a hard time putting the pin back in however with the o-ring.  Takes a lot of finger pressure & wiggling of the pin but it will go in.

I also have the BCM upgrade kit on my LMT carbine but I would just like to let you know it will be slightly difficult in reassembling the extractor with the BCM kit.

You could use a vise or in my case I used a large pliers and I used a thick plastic material around the bolt to prevent any scratches from the pliers.

Thanks, used my pliers with tape on the ends.  It was difficult to get back together, but I got it.

for future reference, you can get "Robo Grips" at sears and buy plastic covers for the jaws, works great for applications like this.  Also, works for installing roll pins.
