| Im a long armed person of course I feel more comfortable with my collapsable stock extended all the way out. Im looking at a 7' and a 9' La Rue handguard. With the 9 I can put my forward grip further out but im going to have to go with a gas block and front and rear flip up sights. With the seven inch I can keep my front iron sight and just get a front flip up sight. What would you go with if you had long arms? If anyone has pics of a 9' I would like to see them. |

Depends. If you already have an upper, it might be a hassle to go through all that just to get an extra two or so inches of rail space. I would just go with the 7 inch.
However, if you're getting a new upper, I would go ahead and get the 9 inch. I've found that it never hurts to have a little extra rail space. So even if you don't really need the extra room for your VFG, there's no really harm done. Nothing wrong with having a rail mounted front sight either. |

Chop/dremel/shave your FSB. Install a LaRue or DD 10" rail. Install flip-up front BUIS. Done.
ETA: OR, if you don't care for flip-up front BUIS, maybe the LMT detachable front site would be good for you. Daniel Defense is also coming out with a nice detachable front sight. |

It's a notch in M4 profile barrels between the FSB and muzzle. It's there so that an M203 (grenade launcher) can be mounted below the barrel and attach on the notch. Unless you actually have access to an M203, it's completely useless but people like the look of it since it's a distinctive profile to the M4 that the troops use.
If you have a lightweight or heavy barrel, you won't have the M203 notch. It's only on M4 profile barrels. |
