My current SPR belonged to AKMike before he passed away last fall. I have tweaked it a little bit by changing the stock and adding a vortex viper 6.5-20x44, my suppressor, and rail covers, but am otherwise leaving it as he had it set up. Not a gun I’ll ever sell. It started life as a WMD Guns Beast nickel boron coated rifle, then he added a Faxon fluted 1:8 5R match barrel and (I think) a Geiselle National Match trigger to it. Hopefully I’ll get it to the range for a zero in the next few weeks.

I’ve got roughly 300 rounds through it over the past few range sessions and have had the chance to group a handful of different loads. It really likes 77gr SMKs and 75gr Hornady OTMs no matter who loaded the round or how fast it’s moving. I shot probably 80 rounds of M855 through it initially to get a rough zero on the ATACR and T2 at 25yds and again at 100. Grouping was terrible but it’s to be expected. Next up I ran 30 rounds of Black Hills Mk262 into roughly a 1.5” group. Initially I was going to break it up into multiple smaller groups, but I was breaking the gun in and wanted to see how it ran when I wasn’t babying the barrel. Cleaned the barrel. Then shot two or three 10-round groups each with Black Arc Munitions 262A and Badlands Munitions Co 85gr Match Burner, both in the Shellshock/NAS3 cases. The 77gr stuff was in a 1.2”-1.4” group for the ten rounds. The 85gr stuff was generally 1.5”-2.0” with some weird vertical stringing initially. At a later range day I ran a few 5-shot groups of both of these plus some other loads, some Hornady Black 75gr and Federal 75gr fmj, plus some cheap 55gr .223 stuff that was probably picked up by me when Obama won the first time. The 55gr stuff surprised me. Pretty consistent 1.5” groups of 10 even when letting the gun heat up. The 75gr Hornady performed the best on 5 shot groups of the day with a .75” group but when combined into an aggregate with another 5 shot group opened up to a 1.2” ten shot group. I liked it so much I ordered 300rds of 75gr Hornady OTMs from Badlands ($0.70/rd is hard to beat without buying AAC stuff, which I’m trying not to do) The 77gr 262A printed a few 1” groups and I spent the rest of the mag shooting shotshell cases off of the target stand at 100yds. 85gr Match Burners again were pretty lackluster getting 1.5”+ groups even with only 5 rounds, and as they they the most expensive rounds I tested at $1.50/rd, I’ll be passing on them in the future. The 75gr fmj stuff was probably 2” Ammo, but I was letting my buddy’s son shoot that group, and at a dollar a round, I’ll pass on that one if given the choice. I’ll try to get my hands on some 80.5gr stuff in the future, but I think they are trying to catch up on the 262A stuff at BlackArc so who knows when that will be. Current plan is to stock 75gr Hornady stuff for plinking and BlackArc 77gr/262A loads for higher stakes situations. The other nice thing I noticed. Both of these shoot to within .2mil of each other at 100yds so I don’t have to mess with my zero much to swap back and forth, just change profiles in AB for the different data. Next up: 300yd grouping with some of those loads and chronoing them. |

I really like this rifle, but will be replacing the optic with some more magnification in the near future. The Centurion Arms 16 inch Mod H barrel is really accurate and the OCM is much more quiet than my Surefire cans. Recently added the MI 13.375 Combat Rail to replace the 12 inch LaRue quad rail which saved some weight on this thing. Centurion Mod H barrel by James H., on Flickr

My favorite rifle to shoot. Running pretty nice now with the Superlative Arms gas block. Shot under 3/4" 5-shot group at 100 with it recently using AAC 75gr. 18" White Oak .223 Wylde barrel, Spikes receivers and BCG, SSA-E, MI 14" rail, Viper 3-15x, Polo-K Is the bubble level silly? Whenever I look at it I'm level. I'd eventually like to try pushing this rifle to 800yds.

Craddock's 15.1 Modern Recce barrel is pretty damn nice. The intermediate gas system paired with a A5 buffer setup makes this gun very pleasant to shoot with the OCM-5 suppressor. The barrel is very accurate and didn't seem to need a break in period as it was shooting AAC 77 grain ammo at roughly 1.25 inches at 100 yards. The Vudu 1-10 works very well on this rifle, but have only shot it out to 600 yards. 15.1 Recce by James H., on Flickr
