I understand that when you stand the bolt up and it closes by its own weight the gas rings need replacement. My question is there an average of rounds that people see before needing replacement? I have about 600 rounds or so through the rifle and based on the above test I need to replace them, is this normal? What can I do to extend the life of them?
Thanks |

600 rounds is not normal. Does your rifle still continue to cycle? I wouldn't change anything until I began to run into short stroke issues. I have bolts that are still on their original set of rings and have been through a few thousand rounds. +1 fired lots of ammo should last you over 5000 rds + |
| Lube often and replace as needed. This is one of those items you should always have in stock. By a bunch and don't worry about it. They're pretty cheap. They can lose tension because of age too, it's not just the number of rounds fired. I doubt you will ever get short stroke issues because of worn gas rings, you may start getting gas in your face though. |
| I would keep shooting it unless you are having trouble. I personally like and use the one piece gas rings. Not sure that they are better per se than the three piece rings but they work well for me and I like them. They are also cheap so if you are worried about it, just replace them. |
