I just bought an Aimpoint Comp M4 on a LaRue QD tall mount and I was wondering something. Does detaching the Aimpoint on and off say like every range trip lose its zero? The reason I ask because I have a gun case the I use that my AR wont fit in with the Aimpoint mounted on it. So I would have to take the Aimpoint off and on while transporting it. Would it be better to buy a new case that will fit? I like my current case and really dont want to buy a new one.

Case?

I just throw the gun in the rear cargo area and head out.

If given a hard choice, I would want to leave the optic mounted as much as possible...
so either I would lose the existing case and/or get a new one.
OR depending on the case, split the halves of the AR and shove them in there.

The LaRue's will hold zero, but I'm not sure about any rail/mount wear that occurs after
constant, repeated removal and re-attachment.

lol i wish i didnt have to use a case sometimes, but i live in an apt so I dont wanna scare the neighbors that will probably see me transport it. Splitting the the AR in half worked though, I feel like an idiot for not thinking of that sooner. I guess this thread can be locked or deleted now. Thanks.

It should hold zero.  I swap my aimpoint and acog around depending on what I need the gun for.  Both on larue mounts and they have held zero for over a year now.

I'd break my AR down in two rather than repeatedly take off / put on an optic.

I take my M3 off all the time and shoot with the BUIS, then put the M3 back on and shoot some more.

No problems here. Isn't that the reason we all buy the LaRue's!

No problem losing zero with the Aimpoint/ LaRue QD mount, I try not to make a habit of moving my dot sight but if I have to it never lose zero.

Here's a couple of videos about Aimpoints not losing zero in extreme conditions, it looks like they're using LaRue mounts if I'm not mistaken, take a look at videos part 2 and part 3.

I've yet to have any zeroing problems with my Larue mount and CompM4.  I think I read somewhere that it was accurate from one mounting to the next one the same rifle within 0.0084 MOA or something like that.

I've taken it off often and never had to re-zero it.

A CompM4 on a LaRue mount, assuming it's properly zeroed to begin with and properly installed, simply won't lose zero from removal/reinstallation at the same place on the rail.  The CompM4 is the top of the line Aimpoint, and it just isn't going to shift on you unless it's broken (will take some doing).  The LaRue mount is the real item in question (since it's the mount that matters most for this), and they're known for being dead-nuts on when you remove/reinstall.

It's the setup I have on my go-to rifle, and I will likely pick up another Aimpoint/LaRue combo (with magnifier) for my SPR build.  If anything fails me, it won't be the Aimpoint and it won't be the mount.

the LT mounts when properly adjusted will retain zero no matter how many times you remove/replace it and will not damage the upper receiver...

the only time LT mounts damage rails is when adjusted TOO tight
