| I could just be slow but are the noveske barrels for sale on their website stainless or chrome lined? Ex. the 14.5 afghan? |
| It is almost near impossible to get a chrome lined Noveske barrel. I suppose someone could order a Noveske N4 Light or a custom build from mstn and sell the barrel, but other than that or calling up Noveske and saying I want a chrome lined barrel and have 5k or something silly they don't get sold. |

Quoted: Quoted: Which barrel is more desired stainless or chrome lined? What are the advantages of each? It's generally accepted that stainless is less durable, but more accurate, CL is less accurate, but more durable. Whether these accepted truths have much merit is much debated. For all practical purposes, they are equally durable for non precision use. When people say stainless has 5K barrel life, they are talking about NRA High power, extreme precision shooting applications. On a rifle that's meant for running and gunning, most civilians with class 3 weapons and mountains of ammo will not wear out their stainless barrels. |

Lines blur here; stainless barrels do not give more velocity because they are stainless, or polygonal; rather, a snugger chamber will make a difference.
It takes many thousands of rounds before a stainless barrel will become less accurate than a similar but chrome lined barrel. Chrome lining is inherently less accurate, because it is a hard coating, and cannot be applied as perfectly evenly as match grade accuracy would require. You can get lucky with a chrome lined barrel, but it may take may tries and many builds before you have a really good one. |
