DUPE, posted this in the rimfire forum but need some help quick so posting it here too. sorry...

My brother bought Spike's .22lr Conversion kit and is having some trouble with it not ejecting the spent casing, getting jammed when it tries to eject he says about every 5 rounds.. A week ago i put my ciener .22lr kit in his and it did the same thing but not as often and not at all when i shot it. I suggested maybe he wasn't holding it to his shoulder firmly?... Haven't had a chance to put his spike's in my ar. Anybody have the link on how to "tune" these kits or how to take them apart?, like how to gently pry the rails apart and take the front off (sorry in a hurry to get some help to him) i tried to explain over the phone because he is in a different town but something to read and see would help him greatly

He says spikes sent an extra spring with his and he was wondering how to change it out and see if that would fix his problem. he isn't on arfcom and doesn't do much searching on the internet so i am tryin to make it easy for him by just providing some links. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SPECS:

Both are shooting Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbines. 16" chrome-lined 1:9 twist barrels.
550 round federal bulk packs from walmart.

ETA: tried to search the topic but came up with nothing. thanks again for the helps

Clean 'em. I had a problem with FTF on my Ceiner. Cleaned it well and the problem went away.
Make sure your shooting High Velocity ammo. It needs the extra push to eject the round.

Cleaning is always a good place to start.  Also, switching to a low power hammer spring may help.  The .22lr isn't big on recoil and when I tuned my for subsonics changing the hammer spring helped tremendously.

As for taking it apart, it is very simple.  Pull the bolt back and hold it so the spring stays compressed.  Then just pull the two metal tabs apart with your fingers and the feed ramp/ring in the front will slide out.  Once the front ring is out, the bolt and spring slide out forward as well.  Only use your fingers to separate the tabs, if you pry on them with a tool you could bend them and damage the kit.  IT doesn't require much force.

As for ammo, the Spikes setup is supposed to be tuned for the federal bulk pack but nothing is 100 percent.  You are putting a conversion kit into a rifle and it has never been tested and will often require some tweaking.  Spikes offers an assortment of recoil springs for tuning on their website if you need to try something other than what you have.

I hope this helps.

P.S.  You should mention in the subject what you need help with.  You will get more readers and more responses that way.

What they said..^..and it will get smoother as it breaks in.
Have him hand cycle it, a lot. That may help the parts get used to each other.
Then get a couple new mags.

Take the whole kit out to the range again.
