I have a few Q's. I know that you should avoid swapping out bolts on different guns.
1) Why is this? Unique wear? 2) If you have only fired a couple hundred rounds on a bolt, can you move it to another gun without issue? 3) Changing the carrier (ex. going form semi-to a full) and keeping the same bolt in the same gun––any issues with that? 4) The CMT chrome bolts being sold by PK; are they MP tested? Thanks |
| Every bolt breaks in diferently on the barrels extension lugs.A couple hundred rounds may not do anything but the more you switch you start to get accelerated wear on the bolt if you do it all the time.I think once you get a bolt running leave it be in the rifle its in.Brand new on a used rifle wont matter but swapping from rifle to rifle will just wear it out faster and depending on how used they get headspace couold become an issue. |

I'll try this:
1) Why is this? Unique wear? I think its more of a proper headspace problem than a wear problem 2) If you have only fired a couple hundred rounds on a bolt, can you move it to another gun without issue? As long as its a quality bolt going into a properly assembled upper ETA: But like Chrome said dont go switching them on a regular basis 3) Changing the carrier (ex. going form semi-to a full) and keeping the same bolt in the same gun––any issues with that? No. 4) The CMT chrome bolts being sold by PK; are they MP tested? ?? I am no expert but this is the info I have gathered her over the few years I have been on the site so I may be wrong on #1; #2 I have tested myself with no issues. I have a Colt bolt with a couple hundred rounds on it that I keep as a spare and using it on my new Noveske I had no problems, just my experience tho. |
