I am doing a Colt Recce build and am torn between a low power scope (Leupold, Nightforce or Schmidt & Bender) or ACOG. I am waiting right now for my stamp to finish my Noveske 10.5 with Eotech so this Recce build will be more for the mid range but I want up close ability too. What are the benefits of the ACOG and Scope over each other depending which one I should go with?? I just cant decide.

ACOGs are awesome, but their up close or CQB ability sucks.  If you want a more versitile optic go with the Nightforce 1-4, thats what the SEALs use currently.

It's not my money.  Go for the S&B.  they are about the best out there.  I wish I could afford one.

I’ve owned a TA11 ACOG, TA31F ACOG, 1.5X Compact ACOG, Trijicon Reflex, Trijicon TriPower, Leupold CQ/T, Leupold Mark 4 1.5 – 5 x 20, S&B Short Dot LE 1.1 - 4 x 24, Aimpoints and EoTechs with flip magnifiers.  While they all have pros and cons, if I could only have one scope for a RECCE build it would be the Short Dot LE.

I am thinking real hard about adding the S&B as I already have one on my Merkel (S&B Flash Dot) and love it. I figure it is time to add another I guess!!! Nice pics and thanks for the insight guys!

A Recce is built around an accurized 16in barrel; what are you using for barrel?

Right now it is a AR6721 HBAR but will end putting a Noveske on after the rest of the rifle is done.

Free-float that 6721 HBAR and run some match grade ammunition through it and you just might be surprised at how well it shoots.

Which S&B did you get ie; Zenith 1.1-4x24 or 1.1-4x24 SD LE? There is a 800.00 difference between the two.

Excellent.

I also suggest the Millett DMS-1. At a price of $200, it is a real bargain and works very well.

The one for the extra $800.  The reps refer to it as the Short Dot II, while the technical name is the 1.1–4 x 24 Zenith Short Dot LE.

How does the SB compare with aimpoint for close quarters?

I'm a big Aimpoint user.  The latest version of the Short Dot is the closest thing to an Aimpoint, at  the 1.1X setting with the red dot on, that I've found in a low power variable scope.  It's not exactly like using an Aimpoint.  You have to concentrate a little more on keeping a consistent cheek weld, but I can easily keep both eyes opened and focused at the same time with the Short Dot.  I haven't done any back to back timed shooting with the Short Dot compared to an Aimpoint at CQB distances yet, but that's on The List.
