| Just got my first AR-15, a colt AR6520 A2. I put about 70 rounds through it friday to test it out and was wondering what everyone suggests me doing to it. I was thinking maybe a red dot or something. If anyone has any general advice for a ar15 newbee please post...Thx (I was gonna put pictures but couldn't figure out how to do it...im pretty internet retarded). Also, do you know if any government agencies use the colt AR6520...just wondering |

This is really personal..... do you want to shoot iron sights, or a dot or scope? I like iron sights.... so my first couple AR's are staying stock (a 6920 I shoot, a 6920 safe queen, and a RRA Entry Tactical). After buying all these, I picked up a Bushy M4gery and I am finally going to trick one out.... EOTech 517, DD Omega rail, as yet unknown vertical grip, etc.
If you feel you are going to get another (or many more) AR's, keeping a nice Colt stock, as your iron sight gun is a nice way to go. Also, you should be good at shooting iron sights, so keep it that way for a while, till you are good. You could always get out the credit card and buy another to trick out !! |

Because of the A2 sighting arrangement and permanent carry handle, adding optics to a 6520 is somewhat problematic, tho' it can be done. Learn to use the irons and hold off on optics for another upper w/detachable handle.
XS makes same plane aperture sights and a 'skunk stripe' front post; both make quick aquisition of the sights easier. The 'Govt. Carbine' designation refers to use of a similar pencil barreled lightweight carbine by the Israelis, who are now using something more like an M4. In any case, a wonderful carbine, light, handy and reliable. Enjoy, but spend your money on ammo in the short term. Moon |
