All, I have on order a MI one piece free float rail that I want to mount on an AR that has a gas block, instead of the standard front sight base. My question is will I be able to install the free float tube without removing the the gas block, say slipping it over the gas block. The gas block in question is on a American Spirit Arms upper, so I believe it is not a "low profile gas block".
I have also gave thought to once the gas block is removed, replacing it with the standard front sight base. Should I, can I? I really like the FSB better then the gas block after having one. I looked at ADCO's website and I am sure they do pro work, its a little out of my price range. It took a while to save for what I have, so money is an issue. I have yet to check out prices with local gunsmiths in my area, as I should have. This is also my first experience with free float tubes, so please bear with me. At this point what should I do... A.) save some funds, send it to ADCO, or another proffesional to have it done? B.) Do it myself, I am mechanically inclined guy, work with machinery all the time. But limited to a few tools at home? C.) Buy a FSB, remove the gas block and enjoy? Thanks in advance! |

If you bought the one-piece, then yes you need to remove the gas block.
Your new handguard will require removal of the muzzle device, gas block, and delta ring. The one-piece handguard comes with a special barrel nut, if you didn't want to remove anything you should have got the drop-in handguard. |
