| Looking into getting a new grip. mine is good, rock solid, but a little heavy. want to replace it with a polymer one. I hear the standard Tango Down grips aren't exactly solid as a rock. but I hear the new ones with the locking lever are. but then again those are 85 bucks. and if I'm spending that I might as well go with a FUG. I hear the FUG's are pretty light cause they're hollow. anyway, Help.... |

More an issue of how well the rail is machined. MI is pretty good.
The TD vertical is designed to be tight on a 1913 spec rail system. Therefore a couple of thousandths during machining of the rail one way or the other could mean a loose or impossibly tight fit. Difficult to make a dovetail out of polymer to fit a wide variety of rail dimensions and have it fit perfectly on all of them. The military loves the TD grip because it does not break like the KAC VFG, has waterproof storage, a pressure switch, and is solid on KAC and DD rails. They are machined properly, although DD is about 3 thou larger in one critical dimension - tighter fit but not impossibly tight. If you order directly from TD put in the comments box that you want a picatinny rail adapter as well. This will make it stick about 1/3" farther down but if necessary it will ensure a great fit. Or if you don't ask for one and have problems you can call and ask for one later, they will send it to you for free. I bought my first TD grip 4 years ago and it is pretty worn out now. Had it on a bunch of different rifles with tens of thousands of rounds fired through them. It is a wear item. The polymer dovetail will eventually become larger as the grip is continually manipulated. In the end the adjustable (QD) grip is the only way to be sure that it will fit your rail tight, forever. |
