Colt LEO markings > AR Discussions

So I have a Colt AR15 that has that "Restricted, Military / Government / Law Enforcement / Export Use Only" marking on the right side fo the mag well. I understand that this marking is on all currently manufactured AR15s from Colt? Does anyone know why Colt put this "Restricted" marking on their rifles if there is no restriction on them?

It's a carry over from the ban era. A non issue for most but a few get all bent out of shape over it. I'm guessing you have a Colt 6920 LE Carbine. Colt will provide customer service to civilian owners of these rifles just the same.

They don't have the markings on the 6400c

the MT6400c is compliant with states that still have a ban, that is why colt leaves the markings on the LE models

Colt company policy. It has nothing to do with the law unless your state prohibits post-ban mags and weapons.

In Texas high cap mags with LEO markings are the norm.

I haven't seen many LEO marked hi-cap mags here at all.

It was part of the AWB of 1994. Rifles manufactured after the ban had that LEO markings on them.

When the ban expired the ATF issue a letter stating to disregard.

not quite, rifles manufactured during the ban that DID NOT COMPLY with the ban needed/had them

Like others have said, they marked them that way during the ban, and never really changed it. Its just something else to have on the side of the gun.

Some people think they're "tacticool." Others don't care. It is kind of ironic that the models they actually sell to the military (the select-fire M4's) don;t have this marking. :)

My 6920 has it, I don't care much either way.

I have a bunch of mags that are stamped withe the LEO markings, I sold some to people who really desired them and got enough to get two mags for what I sold one for. I personally don't care what the heck they are marked with as long as my rifle goes bang when I pull the trigger.

My 6920 has it, I don't care much either way.

The M4 Carbine is stamped "PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVERNMENT" right over the "M4 CARBINE" rollmark. So I don't think it requires the Military/ LE only markings.
