Trying to determine which one is the bolt catch spring vs. the disconnector spring.

Is the disconnector spring the heavy gauge spring w/ one end very slightly larger than the other?

You are correct. The big end goes into the trigger.

Yes, the disconnecter spring is flared on one end.
