I found one for sale but it's a full auto kit.  The seller says that it works fine in a semi auto, is this true?  Is there any reason that I shouldn't buy it and wait for a semi auto kit?

means it comes with a full auto carrier, thats all.  I prefer the full auto carrier over the semi.  If its a good price go for it.  I love my LMT piston rifle!

Thanks for the info.  It's not exactly a good price but I'm willing to pay a little extra to not have to wait 6 months to get one directly from LMT.

Yes it is true, you don't have an auto sear to make it full auto.  Full auto upper or conversion kit just means that it comes with a full auto carrier (which will not make you gun full auto and is perfectly legal)

Yeah I know it won't make it full auto, I just wanted to make sure that the full auto kit works the same in a semi auto rifle.  What's the difference between the full auto carrier and the semi auto carrier?

The full auto carrier has a little more material in the back to trip the auto sear if you were to have one.  The F/A carrier also weighs a little more which most folks prefer as it slows the cycle rate and is supposed to enhance reliability.  This is mostly for full auto guns though.
With a semi auto you can achieve this by getting a heavy "H" buffer and it won't cost as much.  With that said I run mostly F/A carriers.
So to answer you question, yes it will work the same if not better.
