stupid question, I know.  sorry.  Which rear sight appreture is most often used?  Large hole or small hole?  This will be for sighting in a BUIS at 100 feet.

I would use the large for 100 ft (33yrds) and in... Then small for 50 yards and over. That's my opinion. However... it also depends on how precise you want you shot placement. IMO

Its not really a dumb Q.  I'm still not sure which is for which.... large for short range and small for longer and what are the typical cutoff ranges for each.  What does the Army teach?

You always use the small hole for zero'ing your sights, no matter what range, also you generally want to zero at 300 meters or 25 meters, this is because of the trajectory of the round.

Zero at 25 meters using a 3cm or 4cm target, this will get you a good battle sight zero that works effectively out to 400+ meters.

Then you switch between apertures as needed.
