Due to a recent crime wave in nearby areas involving multiple perps, I'm considering having an AR in the bedroom to compliment my shotgun but I'm concerned about keeping the rifle from falling all over the place. The shotgun's stuck in one of the corners of the closet formed by the long and short walls, the AR cant fit in the other corner.
I remember in one episode of The Unit (when the team was in Israel and Grey ran off to bang the chicky-snack on the wrong side of the wire) they showed an M16A2 hanging vertically on hooks next to a wall-mounted first aid kit, hooks through the FSB and carry handle. I was thinking one hook through the FSB and another where the pistol grip meets the lower (since my M4 doesnt have a handle) would securely store the weapon and allow for easy retrieval. Any thoughts? Do I need to worry about stress on the FSB? Kharn |

I don't know the answer re: stresses, etc., but have you considered any of the Plastix Plus wall mounts? http://www.plastixplustx.com/ar15/ar15.html |
| I don't see how the weight of the gun would be problematic on the FSB. You could probably do with a single hook through the FSB and a nail in the wall on one side of the stock to keep it vertical. Then you've only got a single hook to worry about getting it off. Alternatively you could build a small shelf with a lip just big enough to sit the butt stock in and then use a strap or Velcro across the barrel to keep it upright. If you've got a crime problem in your area through you should be very cautious about keeping your toys in the closet like that. Do you really want the BGs to have easy access if they break in while your not home? |

I haven't tried this personally, but I'm considering it; the reviews are good.
Gun grabbers (good kind!!) ETA: I was looking at these for HD shotguns, so I'm not sure if it'll work for AR - have to investigate in-person.... |

I have one of those "forked" tool-holders on the wall at my cabin - it's the kind with two tines that project out like the outer tines of a pitch-fork, about 2" apart, with a large screw end on it. The whole thing is covered with a rubber coating. I can hang an AR (or AK or shotgun) by putting it barrel-down with the narrow part of the stock in the fork. Works like a charm, and it's cheap!
Another possibility is to use one of those ambi sling hooks (with the clip loop on both sides) on your AR and hang it the same way on a coat hook. |

Quoted:
Vertical lets it be hidden by a single garmet against the short wall of the closet (obviously not from a burglar, but visiting friends, etc) vs requiring the entire closet be full to hide it horizontally, which would also make retrieval more difficult.
why not horizontal instead of vertical? Kharn |
